Is Paul McCartney’s new album about his ex?
Sir Paul McCartney has recently had to deny to fans that his new song is about his ex-wife Heather Mills.
His song “Nothing Too Much, Just Out Of Sight” on new album “Electric Arguments” has caused a huge stir as fans believe it to be about his former wife who he was divorced from earlier this year in one of the most public celebrity divorce cases ever, which, in the celebrity world, is saying something!
Lyrics that have sparked this debate include things like: “I remember you well/ Oh woman betrayed you/ I couldn’t resist you/ When I made you…”
Other lyrics include the lines: “The last thing you do was to try and betray me/ In new morning light/ I’ll never forget it/ And that’s just outta sight…”
Also “You said you love me – but was it true? The last thing to do was to lie about me silently.”
And: “you have money/ And no manners.”
Even the album title, “Electronic Arguments”, has been linked back to ex-wife Heather, and is thought to relate to a series of bitter texts, emails and even phone-bugging which are thought to have occurred between the couple’s separation in 2006 and their divorce earlier this year.
However, the 66 year old, ex-Beetles star has said that people are reading too much into the lyrics.
He says that his new track was created as a sister track to The Beetles hit “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da”.
He claims that he: “didn’t have anyone in mind. There was an African guy called Jimmy Scott who I used to meet in nightclubs in London during the 60s.
He was the guy who said to me, ‘Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, life goes on’ and the other thing he used to say was, ‘Nothing too much man, just out of sight.’
“I always thought that it was a great thing to say, so it was really Jummy. I just flew off that line and shouted out things around it.”
This debate comes just a couple of months after Sir Paul publicly declared his happiness with new girlfriend Nancy Shevell.
He and Nancy took a romantic tour of America earlier in the year, after which he said: “I’m so happy. We had a brilliant time in the US. We stayed mainly in hotels but did the whole Route 66 gig/ It was an amazing thing to do – I would recommend it.”
Regarding his new lover and their holiday, he also said:: “It was really great and we’re so happy. I really enjoyed it. It was good to get away for a bit. We saw some places I’ll never forget. But I must say it’s nice to be back.”
With all this controversy about the new album and their lyrics, it’s sure to do well in sales as curious fans line up to get a listen and make their own interpretation!
