Cheryl Cole’s Accent Too Thick For The US
It has been claimed that everyone’s favourite X-Factor judge and Geordie sweetheart, Cheryl Cole, has been asked to iron out the kinks in her strange and wonderful north east drawl if she is to get anywhere in America. TV producers are concerned American audiences will not be able to make out what on earth she is saying.
In fact, Simon Cowell is obviously taking the advice pretty seriously, as he supposedly has forked out hard earned cash to buy the Newcastle stunner some elocution lessons.
Seemingly Mr Cowell is working hard with NBC executives to try and land Cole the coveted role of being a judge on the popular American version of the show.
The accent worries arose after NBC bosses jetted into Manchester to watch Cole recording for the British X-Factor last week.
They have decided to show focus groups the tapes and see how much they can understand her accent and how they respond to her.
An insider said to the Daily Mirror, “They were bowled over by Cheryl and thought she was sassy, smart, charismatic and beautiful. There was just one small problem – they couldn’t make head nor tail of her Geordie accent.
‘She was at her best at the weekend – witty, empathetic and really encouraging to some of the acts.
‘But while her accent isn’t that thick, the Americans really seemed to struggle with it.
‘Simon jokingly offered to pay for elocution lessons for her but, seriously, that may be the route she has to take if she is really considering breaking into television over there.”
The 26 year old Girls Aloud singer is just one in a long line of British stars attempting to ‘break’ America with their charming British-ness.
Classical musician turned TV presenter, Myleene Class is currently hosting the US version of I’m A Celebrity but unfortunately ratings have been pretty poor so far.
